kyma•tweaky . How . FormantAnalyze

Question (or Task)

Ideally I would like to be able to do some processing LIVE using the Formant Bank (I'm working on speech processing and synthesis, so the formant bank vs. oscillator bank question seems heavily weighted towards formant). In the interest of giving an engaging presentation gulp, I would like to be able to do some quick processing of voice without the record-analyze-import business. Is this possible with the formant bank, and if so... how? If not, what are my other options? (I'm working on some stuff involving helium speech, and mediums etc etc, so the control over specific formants for vowel sounds etc is important)

Solution(s)

Mike, is your goal to modify the formants? Or to analyze and identify where the formants are? There are some techniques for shifting formants (without necessary having to analyze the spectrum). For example, if you do a formant-preserving pitch-shift down and follow that with a non-formant-preserving pitch shift back up to the original pitch, you will have effectively shifted all the formants up without affecting the fundamental. There are some examples of this in the Kyma Sound Library under Effects/ Frequency and Time Scaling. Would these do what you need?
