kyma•tweaky . Know . ReverseSamplePlaybackControl

Problem

In the sample playback sound in Kyma 5, you could put in the frequency with a toggle that was either +1 or -1. This would enable you to control the direction of playback. I tested this in Kyma X and it does not seem to work. Is there another syntax that is functional?

Solution

This continues to work the same way in Kyma X as it did in Kyma.5.

In the GenericSource or Sample modules (on both Kyma.5 and Kyma X), using +1 or -1 in the Frequency field is interpreted as a directive to play the sample at a frequency of 1 hz (or -1 hz). As a subaudio frequency, the result would be inaudible. Instead, use the expression:

default * !Direction

and use the VCS editor to set the range of !Direction to (-1,1) with a grid size of 1.

This would give you the default (or original) frequency of the sample forward (when the fader is at 1), backward (when the fader is at -1), and silent (when the fader is at 0).
