Problem

The Wacom tablet pen does not control parameters mapped to !PenX or !PenY.

Solution

We have recently discovered a problem with the newer Wacom tablet drivers. It appears that the Wacom driver 4.85-6 is the last version without these problems. Please use driver 4.85-6 until we have worked out this problem along with the engineers at Wacom.

Here are the steps necessary to install the proper driver:

  1. If you have already installed a tablet driver, uninstall it by using the Add/Remove Programs control panel. The software is called Tablet.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Use the Windows XP file find function (use Search from the Start menu) to locate all files named tablet.dat (make sure you search system files and folders by selecting that option). Delete all of these files. (They could be in c:\I386 and in c:\windows\system32 among other places.)
  4. Download the Wacom driver version 4.85-6 and install it.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Open the Wacom Tablet Preferences control panel, use each tool (mouse, pen, air brush, etc.) and select each tool in the control panel when the icon for the tool shows up. (There is no need to make any adjustment to the preferences.)
